The Future Weird: Visions of Excess | Wednesday 31st July @ 8PM
Jean-Pierre Bekolo’s genre-bending sci-fi thriller LES SAIGNANTES opens with a woman who whispers: “We are in 2025 and nothing has changed.” Then she fucks a man to death.
Join us on Wednesday 31st July, 8PM to watch Cameroonian director Jean Pierre Bekolo’s feature film Les Saignantes, alongside shorts by Wangechi Mutu and Kibwe Tavares plus weird and wonderful clips from forgotten corners of the colonial archive.
"Visions of Excess" is an evening of film screenings that documents bodies produced by force. The feature, collected shorts and archival clips explore body movement which confounds the dichotomy between human and machine. But forget what you know about the sexy cyborg - we’re talking about secret societies run by women, the appetites of deep sea creatures, eroticized amputees, and militant bread bakers. Welcome to the black fantastic.
"Visions of Excess" is the first installment of a monthly series exploring futuristic film from Africa / the global south.
